Incredible. Just incredible. Sure there's probably some loose ends lying around, but I really, really like the way they're going about this "time travel" business. They've built in some really nifty ways for them not to have to deal with a heap load of time paradoxes.
Who opened the door in the sick bay that allowed Sayid, Des and Minkowski to escape? Frank? Ben's "man"? Minkowski? Whaaa? Yeah, that's right, Minkowski could be jumping to the future for all we know.
Oh, and a Black Rock sighting on top of everything else? Awesome. Hanso too? Shut up man, quit f'ing with me.
Desmond Hume is my constant. LOST!
did they hint that someone tried to erase daniel farraday's mind?
is regina the captain?
who leaked the official lost podcast? here it is if you want to hear it...

bah ill post it on the forum:

The episode was fantastic, but the cliffhanger was pretty weak. I was expecting Ben's "man on the boat" to be revealed. Did anyone else choke up a bit when Penny and Desmond were talking on the phone?
Well....there was so much in this one concerning the island's properties and the freighter people. I don't know what to think.
All I know is that phone convo between Dessie and Penny was dissapointing! I was screaming at the television going, "Say something important!!!"
...oh, and why didn't Sayid feel compelled to grab the phone and ask for some real rescue?
I'm glad Desmond's not going to die! There are so many weird things going on with the time travel, though. How could Desmond "not change the future" as Dan told him he couldn't...but then have Dan look back to the note in his book about Demond being his constant...? And what about Penny? does she remember Desmond telling her about Dec. 24, 2004???
It had a Reeves/Bullock "Lake House" feel...gah!
I missed Eggggtowwwwn, though...I really want to see what's up with Ben and his shit.
It was nice to see Widmore again...FINALLY! He's behind this somehow, guys...it's gotta be him!
I did. I was about an inch away from my iMac.
It was great. And I'm glad that the brought Penny back in to the island story-line, I thought they might go a whole season without Penny in present time.
Man, after watching this episode I feel like I just had a really good meal ;)
Awww, radiant_redhead you have no heart. :)
Yeah, I also thought that Desmond should actually say something important, but then Penny would come rescue them and will all know that won't happen until season 6.
...I actually do have a heart! :)
I get the desire to communicate your love to another over a phone that has a dying battery while on a ship in the middle of nowhere near an island that you've been stranded on for years...i get that...
don't we all???
I really don't like that Darkufo guy. First, leaking stuff = not cool. Second, he insists on watermarking (an ugly watermark to boot) everything he puts out. Of course you can't watermark an MP3, so the leaked podcast comes out as some streaming flash BS.
The sickness IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!! Is it fair to assume that the "Brandon" Minkowski mentioned is the same Brandon from danielle's team?
no
Is time-jumping what the sickness is supposed to be?
I was saying "say something important!" when Des was talking to Penny too. But I can't actually think of anything he could have told her that she doesn't already know lol.
I loved this episode! Nothing happened on the island but I don't even care. I'm kind of have a crush on Daniel. He's so fucking weird.
It sucks that Minkowski died though. wtf was that? And I though we would have found out who the spy on the boat was.
Does anyone find it strange that "The Constant" is listed as episode 4.5 when the last Lost episode was episode 3.2 "Glass Ballerina"? Shouldn't it be episode 3.4? What's today's date? October 18, 2006, right? RiGhT!? Where am I?? How did I get here? I don't know you, who are you! WHERE"S PENNY?!
Get it, I'm pretending I'm from the past... Lame I know. So is time travel.
I assume it is the sickness Krys... another loose end picked up again.
some random points:
- what happened to the 2004 desmond? And shouldnt the Desmond we saw so far on the show remember all this?
- Sayid coming into the communications room, seeing the completely destroyed equipment "give me a couple of minutes" ... hilarious ;)
- I dont know who did the cutting at the end of Desmonds/Pennys phonecall but it was pretty bad.
Like "Flashes before your eyes" I loved this episode.
PS: I just came from the movies. Mission Impossible was amazing, hope they'll make some sequels. (sry, couldnt resist :P)
Mission Impossible? Are you a film reviewer? I didn't think that comes out for a few weeks.
Are you guys on "The Constant?" I just watched the *series* finale entitled "No, Really, That's what the Smoke Monster is?". I don't want to spoil you guys, but Ben's man on the boat is... Jacob.
Oh, and Vincent was the guy in the coffin. He had to change his name when he got back from the island to erase his connection to Claire and Aaron. He got a poodle pregnant almost immediately once hitting the mainland (did *you* see any other dogs on the island?), so he was survived by a "teenaged-son." His son was about two, which is within adolesence for a canine. I've got to tell you, season five was weird when we finally got to see things from Vincent's perspective. One of the reasons he was gone so much was because he was trying to make it workout with a polar bear. But it turned out the bear was a dude. His flash-back was pretty anti-climactic, There was a really strange scene with Walt's Step-father and a jar of Jiffy.
Anyways, with Vincent, almost his entire settlement from the plane-crash went to his burial.
For real, though, do you think Desmond's time-jumping has anything to do with his court-martial and dishonerable discharge for cowardice?
Yes, yes, and yes.
@ MekareQ
ok lets assume that is the case: You could say that the main event that led to Desmond going on the sailing race is his discharge. If his discharge was actually caused by the timetravel stuff, he wouldnt be on the island without having gone back now in 2004...
Another paradox would be the fact that Daniel doesnt remember Desmond. But they can ofc explain it with Daniel's memory loss ...
You guys are in the minority.
People are calling this one of the best episodes ever. I agree.
I'm loving the idea of a breezy little IRP before the real pod. Thanks guys.
yay!
-paul in vegas
Excellent.
I agree w/you guys! arrrgh with the official word that theres 'no paradox' when clearly there is w/that rat. I guess the point is for us to know that they're not gonna do a thing where the losties do stuff now and change the future we've already seen (cause that'd be sucky and star trek/back to the future/etc/etc/etc has done it already anyway)
I agree w/everyone. Yeah it was a great episode and yeah theres some serious problems w/time travel and continuity about to show up on this show.
which makes me go 'bah' cause I'd like to believe this story wasn't gonna go there. *sigh*
Hopefully when the original island mysteries are revealed we'll be in a place where we can just accept the reality they've presented us with.
But I have a feeling anyone who spends 4 hours discussing a 1 hour episode on a regular basis will have issues with some things.
PS wouldn't that rat be pretty well grounded w/constants?
Past: lives in daniels lab and runs the maze
Future: lives in the daniels lab and runs the maze
Dawn,
Yes. That's the point I tried to make. Not only would the rat's world be less different from one time to the next, but his ability to processes the world is less sophisticated--which is why it seems strange that its brain couldn't handle time travel.
"So if you want to stop this, then you need to find something there...something that you really, really care about..."
Perhaps it is impossible for a rat to survive if it can't have something it really cares about.
I doubt Desmond could have chosen the Sun or something like that so I don't think the rat could have used a cage etc. as a constant.
So maybe if Eloise had a male rat with her she could have survived. I'm not a rat psychologist though, so I don't know if a rat "cares" for another rat.
Ok so i'm thinking maybe when Desmond 'gets back' to 2004 then the 1994 Desmond has forgotten all the stuff 2004 Desmond did while he was in his body.
maybe
