OMFG!

these four team members...
1) How do they know Ben and how does he know them?
2) Why do they want him and why is that such a threat?
3) How does Oceanic 815 tie into Benjamin Linus? Meaning, how did they connect the two together in order to go on the mission?

Who the hell is this creepy black guy who has now talked to Hurley and Naomi?? Who does he work for?

What's up with the helicopter? Is this really how they're going to get off the island?

When Ben says one of his men is on the freighter....WTF does that mean? Are we talking about Michael here??

GAH! I'm freaked!

btw, Daniel Faraday is a complete airhead...and Miles is a pissy asshole.

I'm not even going to mention the insanely confusing flashbacks for each character...I just don't know what to say. Obviously the plane and dead bodies were constructed to look genuine...gah!

amongst the confusion, I loved the episode!

Observations... not too much fuel... they're not going to take many people... Drunk pilot guy feels directly responsible for the 815's, not a bad guy... Ben Linus looks *really* weird in non-island attire.... Alex still loves her daddy... Anyone think the dude from Find 815 might be Ben's "man on the boat?" I doubt it... Vincent is one weire frikkin dog... WTF was the Polar Bear doing in Tunisia? ... Is Tunisia by the water? I wouldn't be so surprised if it was found on a beach or something... definately the "Hydra" logo.

Anyone got anything to add?

It's Sarah; Ben is the other man, but he hates her and she won't leave him alone.

When Ben told everyone that woman's name, it was right after Locke asked about the monster, and I thought he was saying the monster's name.

If Ben has blocked all communications to and from the island, how is he communicating with his mole on the frieghter? By message in a bottle? Par avion?

The first person that came to mind was Michael, but I'm not sure that makes sense. I mean, did Ben leave a secret note in the boat for Michael and Walt to find.

My second thought was that, "I have a man on the boat", is Ben's way of saying "Jacob told me".

I think they're on day 92 on the island. Based on lst night's flashbacks, it would seem the team wasn't assembled until after the crash. Not much time for Ben to get a mole on the freighter.

Naomi, and maybe even Miles, seemed well aware of the possibility that there were survivors on the island. Why is this?

I'm not sure Dan or Frank were aware ahead of time that there were 815 survivors, but based on Frank's call to the hotline, he at least seems suspicious that there's a cover up.

As for reasons these people were chosen, here's a few guesses:

Daniel / Physicist - He's already noticed that light thing. He may have insight into some of the wierd properties of the island.

Frank / Pilot - They need a strong pilot because it isn't exactly easy to land on this island.

Miles / Ghostbuster - Can he talk to the dead of the island to uncover secrets? Can he talk to Jacob? Maybe he'll understand the whispers, provided they're coming from dead people.

Charlotte / Anthropologist - There to possibly gather info on island natives. Maybe a certain 4-toed statue is in her excavating future.

For now, I'm assuming these people were sent by either Dharma or Widmore. They want Ben because of his role in the purge and they want to island back to continue Dharma's studies.

I doubt it's Dharma, she was too excited about the Hydera collar. I think that if she would have been Dharma, she would have not been excited, scared or dismayed maybe. Not excited.

i am getting a bit tired of some character saying that they will kill Ben but never kill him. I know that Ben should not be killed now IMO. And IMO the writers should stop having a character in the show threaten to kill him. It is getting a bit too much.

I agree SO MUCH. Every time I see that now I'm like "Ugh we get it!"
Nobody actually believes that someone's gonna get pissed off and shoot Ben. Not anymore.

Anyhoo. It was a fabulous episode. I'm thoroughly confused.
I have a hard time believing it's Michael on the freighter though.

ps Matthew Abbadon gives me nightmares.

I really hope that Myles is just a nutjob. Not a fan of the whole ghostwhisperer thing... that would be kinda lame imo. Plus: How is everything gonna be explained strictly by science, how Darlton once claimed.

Great episode overall, my favourite scene would have to be Ben talking to Karl / Sawyer "Now if you're gonna sleep with my daughter, I insist you call me Ben" lolol ;)

Really great episode. Very fast paced, really liking season 4, especially how fast they appear to be moving with this storyline. I never dreamed we'd be where we are after just two episodes. Daniel, Charlotte, Miles and Frank. Never saw 'em coming.

Most fascinating moment from a "WTF" standpoint- Charlotte's polar bear. Seriously, WTF? So, how long exactly has that bear been in the Tunisian desert? Uh huh, and how long ago was it that Dharma was even a twinkle in the eye of Hanso?

Miles = whisper rosetta stone? Wait till Jacob gets a load of this guy.

Frank, wat u doing studyin' the flight manifest so carefully? Memorizing every passenger name, really, really? Was really liking Frank until that little revelation.

I predicted Michael on the freighter in the last thread. I did not think that he would be in cahoots with Ben though, and I'm just not convinced that to be true. A lot of assumptions have to be made to get there. Just getting to the freighter and becoming sort of an unexpected guest I can see. But also somehow being Ben's man, eh, just not convinced.

Need to watch again though before completely wrapping my head around it. Watched with my wife, who decided it was a good idea to eat some doritos from the bag while watching. Crunch. Crunch. Crackle, crackle, shuffle, shuffle. Crunch. Crunch.

Blogger stephen said...

Doritos? Like that guy who plays Yemi was eating that night.

Maybe Frank didn't really memorize the list from the manifest, but actually has a list of the hostiles and everyone they recruited. So he recognized her name from the Others list, and not didn't recognize her name from the 815 list.

I think the pilot is plagued by guilt. It's possible that he did obsessively read and re-read the manifest, telling himself over and over that he was responsible for *this* death and *that* death by just not being there. I doubt he looked like that when he was an actual pilot, He went Jimmy Buffet at some point, and I think he might have had a mental break after the crash. I buy that guy memorizing, through repetition, the manifest list as waaaay more plausible than the polar bear or ghost guy. In fact, I buy it more than the physisist who was sad but "didn't know why" and who left his life to go on a -who the hell knows- mission.

Another random observation: Sawyer told Karl not to let Ben get inside his head, and then immediately let Ben get inside his own head.

The lawyer (not really) guy creeps me out too. The way he kept repeating "there are not survivors" kind of made me think that the undercurrent of the conversation was more along the lines of "make *sure,* there are NO survivors." Dollars to donuts, he's the reason, somehow, the Oceanic Six are lying.

Stephen,
Way to link 420's doritos with the one's the Yemi actor ate at the party. I almost fell off my chair. :)

Janic,
I agree with you about the best line in the episode. I can't wait for C& J to deconstruct it and possibly reenact it. :)

I think Michael is Ben's man on the boat, and here's why:

If Michael got back to the real world (and I think he did), one would have to assume that he was feeling pretty guilty for killing Ana Lucia and Libby. So what if one of the Others (we already know they come and go from the island) found him and enlisted his help? As in, "here's a way to help your friends who you betrayed..."

It does require a lot of assumptions, but I can see it happening. It also seems like a sensible place to take Michael's story arc.

Mek, I think I just didn't explain myself well. Where I was going was that I think there maybe something a bit sinister to Frank's memorizing the manifest and being so excited to find out Juliette was a "native".

Also, the more I think about it, seems like a pretty logical group of people to bring to the island. A physicist (crazy island properties), a ghostbuster (jacob, whispers, etc.), and an anthropologist (more crazy island properties). And I guess Frank cuz you need a pilot.

also the lastest Official Lost Video Podcast showed the dog that was used in the painting in Jacobs cabin. it is not Vincent.

Hey 420, I re-read my post and realized I came across as argumentative. I'm sorry! I wasn't actually arguing with what you said, when people come up with theories, I try to look at it from a different angle, even if I agree with them! I get some crazy theories that way. Normally I double-check for un-intentional attitude when posting, but I was in a hurry that day.

I think you're great at catching things that I miss, and you bring a lot to the table (more than I do!), so I really hope you don't think I was trying to be rude.

The pilots response popped for me, because I thought it was an "othery" thing to say, but I immediately turned it over and came up with the "guilt" theory. To me it sounded plausible, but I can see why you would think it was sinister.

Still friends?

Hi Everyone
Im a newbie to the site and a big big fan of lost. I've been reading all your comments avidly but no-one has mentioned the coffin in the 1st episode, does that mean that I am the only one who doesn't know the content?? I must be really thick-sorry folks but could some one please put me out of my misery and tell me because it did not become evident in episode 2. thx

I just watched again. I think that the show me where "it" is that Miles talks about in his flashback is the same "it" that Charlie tells Hurley that he is hiding from "it." maybe the island/Jacob? he also says " you can go now" maybe to the island? this is because I think that this room is Michaels ! it would work with the obit in the paper (murdered?) if it were Michael in the coffin. this meeting somehow changes something so that is why the photo is different ?
the money in the wall that Miles took was a red herring- he was not talking about that.
listen to that scene again with this in mind...

Miles' flashback is just that...a flashBACK. It takes place during the time the "wreckage" is found in the sea.

Shouldn't we assume that Michael was still on the island when they found this "wreckage"? What leads you to believe that Michael had already returned to society and had time to be murdered before this underwater discovery?

I really like your laid back approach to podcasting very chilled man - very Dharma-like!! It's very funny and I especially liked your comments on an unborn fetus etc. That had me howling with laughter.

I also lived through your mammoth - Through The Looking Glass 13hr podcast - loved it!

Going to Lockdown 2008 in the UK - whooo!

Writer's strike over! Right?

By the by, listened to Lostcasts last night, and they also had a couple of interesting tidbits. They had an e-mail from Hurley that said the "eye" in the window at the cabin was not Locke. Also said when they shot it, they had Hurley sitting in the rocking chair dressed in his bath robe, Santa Rosa style. They did it that way so even the cast wouldn't know ahead of time that it was Christian in the chair.

Also, they mentioned that if strike is over, it would take approximately 4 - 6 weeks for production to start back up and that the networks were pretty much planning to extend the seasons. Not sure that they have much choice. Anyway, maybe the break after episode 8 won't be too long.

It said in Variety they'd do at least 5 more Episodes this season.
They said if they'd push it out into summer they could get all 8.
but even with 5 they'd wrap it up as the planned to story wise and get a few more eps in future seasons .

Um, as I recall that was the season finale of season three.

You should all three seasons (series) and watch them in order. Maybe you'll be less confused.

Also, there are only going to be be 6 seasons (series) in total, not 8. Unless you're watching Lost in a place which is not airing the episodes consecutively or in the same timeline as the rest of the universe.

Hi Folks
Me again - no-one has quite answered my coffin question.
Apologies all round as I now realise most of you are from the good ole US of A. I'm a brit-sorry but there you are, someone has to be and the series (seasons) over here are now the 4th and we have been promised 8 (not 6). It's in the UK edition of the Radio Times, which is a BBC publication and they don't get much wrong. Any answers yet about my coffin in Season 4 episode 1? Thx in advance:-)
