Remember in season 1 (cue flashback music) when Sayid was torturing Sawyer to get the Asthma medicine, he place the knife to Sawyer's eye and said that if he removed his eye it would loosen his tongue.

Jurassic Park! I think there is about a six hour time difference! it was late here.
not much to comment about the episode. too bad charlie didn't die of course, crashing into that rock. that was just, well, upsetting and cruel, really. gash. it will be silly if he get struck by a lightning or get eaten by a beaver or something next episode.. I think Hurley now has saved Charlie, and he will live throughout at least this season. the son of a silly person, the sub-human quacking plum. yes yes, again with the plums.
but it was a decent episode, and I'm sure the next one will be better.
You just can't bash 'hope' like that. It's called Romanticism! ;-) You pragmatist should try it sometime!

you guys were wondering weather or not the others will ever come back to the mini island. i have a theory, and although it makes me sick, i think i'm on to something.
when i was a little kid, i had a great strategy for hide and seek. i would find to good hiding spots. i would hide in one. the person looking would look in the other spot, and as soon as they did, i would run to that spot when their back was turned. they had already checked there, so there is no reason for them to check again.
the others may be doing the same thing. they hide on the mini island, then the losties look there. as soon as they do that, they leave their town. the losties wouldn't check there again. i don't want to go back to the hydra island, but it seems that they might, if they use this strategy.
maybe i'm missing something, but doesn't sayid recognize patchey from a few days ago, when he was at the pearl.
and as far as you guys being negative about this episode, you weren't as bad as i expected. i don't mind fshashbacks and character episodes that don't advance the story, and the first thing i thought is "claude is gonna tear this episode up like furhter instructions on monday." you weren't too harsh.
am i allowed to post spoilers on here? i don't want to spoil anyone, but i have some info on patchy.

hi. another fabulous podcast! After listening to your podcast you have me pondering Hurley's old boss Randy. There seems to be some time problems. He worked as Locke's Boss when Locke was going to Australia. Randy seemed to act as if he had been at the box company a while - by the way he was talking to Locke. Yet he was also ready to open Mr Clucks when Hurley went to Australia. I am confused. Any ideas? Thanks.

When you were questioning what Sayid was saying about Locke using the way the sun shone on Eko's stick as a guide: I think he was being sarcastic. There was a hint of a smile on his face.
Don't forget, Sayid is one the most intelligent people on the island (apart from the being in love with shannon stuff of course)
I reckon He's just going along with John to see what happens. I think in the next episode, Locke will assume he's the leader, but really it will be Sayid.
Lets hope the next episode doesn't suck because we really need some cool stuff to happen with Sayid. I've really missed him!

Joking aside, it would be interesting to figure out who is the smartest person on the island.
Juliet, Ethan, Bernard and Jack all have doctorates.
Artz had at least a masters to teach high school science.
Ben and (again) Jack have leadership qualities
Sayid, Locke and Rousseau have incredible survival skills
Sawyer and Kate are cunning.

i've been wrong before, but i think claude and justin would love this episode, if locke wasn't in it!
Locke acted so strange in this episode. He acted like he needed a babysitter to watch over his stupidness. Whats with Locke? Maybe the Hatch imploding did something to Locke's brain. I was so angry at him. Pushing buttons like a child at a computer. Arrgg.....
When Hurley gave back the Playpal magazines to Sawyer the two issues had the same story.

I like your theory. But the problem is, that only works for so long. It's not like the losties will think, "Well, we've looked at O-Town and the mini-island, guess the Others are gone for good!"
And as far as spoilers, I'd say maybe put them on your blog, and just let us know its there and link it. I for one don't like like to be spoiled. Well, not as far as LOST is concerned.

Speaking of Sayid, what was with his line about "any tea is good tea." At first it made sense, then I realize that Sayid isn't English!! Do Iraqis have tea-time also?

Good memory. The entire episode I was waiting for Patchy to tell Sayid "I'd offer you some crumpets, but you see, YOU CUT OUT MY EYE!!!!!"

As far was who is smartest:
Doctorates, IMHO, are more of a testament to determination and hard work than intelligence, necessarily. (No offense to those who have or are in the process of getting a doctorate, especially those in, say, Indiana.)
As far as who has the highest IQ, My money is on Sayid for the losties and Juliet for the Others (that video backstabbing thing was brilliant).
And I think Sawyer has a pretty high IQ (just lacks formal education) After all, you have to be pretty intelligent to do some of those cons, and let's not even talking about how hard it is to come up with a new nickname every 30 seconds.

I haven't talked to Justin about it, but I loved this ep. And you're TOTALLY right, Locke was the worst part about it! Like Vicki said, I thought I was watching scenes for Problem Child 4 (there really are 3 of them already) or something. Maybe when Sun is finished babysitting Aaron she can look after little Lockey.
And I think Justin's idea might be close to what happened. It is pretty interesting...

Besides the fact that I find this insulting, I don't agree.
Of course, it depends on what type of doctorate we're talking about. But I'd say a PhD in any hard science is a good indicator of intelligence. Doing original research is not a matter of hard work, although hard work is required. It requires extreme ingenuity and original thinking, without these, you'll just work really hard and never get anywhere. I don't have a PhD, so I'm not bragging here. I just believe, and I think research will back this up, that hard science PhDs will end up on the higher end of the IQ spectrum.
Now, what I agree with is that just because you don't have a PhD that doesn't mean you aren't intelligent.
So, in logical terms,
if PhD then ingelligent
but, NOT
if intelligent then PhD.

I agree, it depends on what kind of doctorate.
And I didn't mean to imply that someone with a PhD wasn't intelligent. Of course they have to be.
I just meant that it doesn't denote a *high IQ* necessarily. You can do a lot of hard work and have an average IQ and still get a PhD. At least that's my thinking, maybe I'm wrong.
I mean, someone with a 115 IQ (nothing to laugh at) can learn a hard science and be just as much as a expert at it as someone with a 145 IQ--though it may be easier for the latter. So if both of these people get a PhD in said field, you can't say that having a PhD means you have a high IQ, right?
The point is, who looks better in a ponytail, Sayid or Sawyer?
It seems my Kelvin-Mikhail (Patch guy) connection to Sayid may have been shot to sunshine. But remember Mikhail fought in Afghanistan.

As to Locke. Games are his heroin. We seen him play mousetrap, operation (when handling the dynamite), backgammon and now chess. He is not mole just game addicted.

It is difficult to quantify intelligence. Radio personality Howard Stern made a great point that it depends on the topic. You can take a low educated illiterate model against a highly acclaimed scientist, but if the topic is fashion and cosmetics the model would easily win.
Claude and Justin -
IQs are biased by how we are socialized. Although IQs are usually a good general indicator of intelligence, it is not finite.
Anthropologist judge intelligence by the ability to survive. Thus I would think that both Sawyer, Sayid and Kate are the most intelligent by that standard.
But onto the more serious discussion. Desmond and Kate also had ponytails. So of the four I vote for Kate, but only by a hair.

What up guys! Really looking forward to this week's podcast, for what was a classic episode. I really thought last week's podcast was a perfect compliment to the episode itself- light and fun. Lots to chew on in this latest episode though.
Claude, the freaking writers are listening to you guys- immediately thought of you when Sawyer asked who Nicki was. Awesome.
I thought it was a pretty cool twist when we find out that Mikhail is not the last survivor of Dharma afterall.
Ms Klugh, there you were. I suppose Ben sent her to check the communications after "the sky turned purple". I'm still so confused on what Ben's group knows about what was in the swan hatch. Seems like if they knew what was in there, they'd say, "when the failsafe was activated" rather than "when the sky turned purple." Perhaps Ben's group (what do we call them now, pretty much confirmed Ben's group is pre-Dharma) hadn't figured out yet what was in the swan. My head's starting to hurt.
Locke, you're an idiot. Plain and simple. "Figured out why you didn't want me playing your little game.....KABLOOM!" Idiot. But did you guys get the impression from Mikhails reaction that that's what they wanted to happen?
The interwebs report that Klugh was telling Mikhail to shoot her and Mikhail telling her no, there's another way. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you think he may have been referring to.

OK, just came up with a half-baked theory about what happened at the flame.
Mikhail re-wired the flame to self-destruct when "77" is pushed; I think it was previously wired to alert Dharma mainland.
When Mikhail told Klugh that there was another way, I think he was thinking of possibly leaving the hatch to our gang, who would presumably proceed to blow themselves up after eventually pressing 77. Not sure about all that, but I definitely think the flame had be re-wired to self destruct.

The cat Amira is petting and telling the story about, she kept refering to as he. Yet Mikhail's cat had a feminine name - Nadia.
French Connection
Since we agree Sayid is brilliant, I would think that he would pick up more french when he worked in Paris, than Shannon learned when she spent a summer there, yet he relied on Shannon to translate. Granted Sayid lived in an arabic speaking neighborhood, but you would think he would pick up more words than her.
Also we have an interesting connection possibly of Sayid and Shannon in Paris.
I was curious to re-watch it and see if locke made any 'illegal' moves after the exposition of 'humans cheat'. Meaning the game is near impossible to beat unless you cheat, essentially a back-door in an otherwise difficult security system.
