Paused the podcast to comment, so if you guys figure it out later I apologize. The time difference between the freighter and island is zero. They both exist at the same time. Things travel through time if they do not go through then time barrier the correct way. Depending on your angle of entry you can go to the past or future. That is why the bearing is so important in subsequent episodes and why other things seem to randomly travel through time such as the payload, the doctor and the radio waves from an earlier season.
