Vicki H.,

Glad to hear we cheered you up!

Good to hear from you and we're anxious to hear your Sawyer comments.

We're ahead on recording podcasts, so #6 will be posted next week. Hopefully we can keep on schedule and post almost weekly until about when Season 3 starts.

Keep a close eye on your dog, it may be Smokey in disguise! :)

hi. he is smokey in disguise. he is a yellow lab and i want to know who he works for. LOL
i also thought that when sawyer said that he made this birthday wish 4 years ago was a bit strange. why did he say 4 years ago? you would think someone like Sawyer would say something like - -I made this wish all my life (re: having a woman jump him). maybe we will find out something about this in the future? or it could be just a red herring. i hope some of his conversations and why he calls people nicknames will come to something. it would be interesting to see why he does this. i don't know anyone who speaks like Sawyer - by nicknaming everyone. it is funny for the show but maybe there is something behind it. I loved when he called Locke "Mr Clean". LOL
I just rewatched The Moth. 1st why did Locke use Charle as bait to trap that Boar? Kinda Creepy!!! how do you guys think he found out that Charlie was doing Heroin? i guess you watch how a person acts to see if they are not acting normal. but he knew everthing. do u guys think Locke was spying on him. I am not sure. Maybe Smokey told him. since at that time he seemed so in tune with the island. maybe Locke is crazy. LOL
I am going to watch the Confidence Man now.
After this podcast you will be putting up soon what will the next podcast be on? which shows?
talk to you guys later.
i still what to know if my dog is smoky. LOL

also b/4 i forget. at the end of The Moth --Locke knocks Sayid out In Confidence Man when Sayid is mad b/c they can't find Shannon's medicine Locke tries to infer it is Sawyer. Locke gives Sayid a knife and lets him go off after Sawyer. We know that Locke knocked him out in the next few episodes he tells Sayid. i don't understand why he would urge Sayid on to get Sawyer. Any ideas.
Also i have the worse grammar --- sorry if my sentences aren't very clear.

Hey Vicki,

Thanks for the comments. You bring up some interesting points.

The next podcast will be about episodes 6-10 which are: House of the Rising Sun, The Moth, Confidence Man, Solitary, and Raised by Another.

The podcast after that will be about episodes 11-15: All the Best Cowboys have Daddy Issues, Whatever the Case May Be, Hearts and Minds, Special, and Homecoming.

Hope you are enjoying our Season 1 Retrospective!

Thanks for listening and for your input!

Hmm, I didn't think about that scene from Locke's perspective. It makes me think that the writers didn't know at the time that Locke did it. It makes no sense for him to send someone after Sawyer.

The problem I keep having is that sometimes small things can become important 20 episodes later, and sometimes they are meaningless...Who knows?!

Anyway, thanks for listening.

Loved the new podcast. And I'm looking forward to the next installment of discussions about season one.

One quick note though. In 'Walkabout', I've always thought Sawyer was talking to Boone, not Jack, when he said "Stay out of it, metro." It makes more sense to call Boone a metrosexual.

It seems like Jack is the one butting in to me, but it would make more sense.

Hey,

Live Together, Die Alone. I have actually heard it mentioned on "Scrubs" of all things!

Its like saying - we die alone so why not live together? We are all going to end up on our own, in death - so we may as well help each other now and share the company of others. I really think its a reference though, and something "snappy" to say.

Talking about the tone - I know exactly what you mean. I think it started as a kind of "survival" show and now its "mystery" e.t.c

"me bum" perfectly good English phrase "you savage Yanks" :)

One more thing...

There is a Cambridge English Dictionary - its just not as good - therefore not as well known as the Oxford version.

Also, you guys are good - I like listenting to LostCasts for factual and you guys for honest debate. Some other podcasts have presenters that are a little shy about having an argument and you guys arent - its good to hear! Its also nice to hear stuff about the nitty gritty not just all the major themes that you can read about by going on to ANY forum or messageboard.

Keep up the good work!

Kieron

Wow, we finally hit the UK!
Thanks for the comments.

I know "me bum" is acceptable as a phrase, I just thought it was an awful line for Charlie to say to Ana-Lu. It's non sequitur.
But I guess it does stand out to us, since we "yanks" wouldn't use a phrase like that. That reminds me, I've been wondering, how authentic does Charlie's dialogue, especially in the flashbacks, sound? It seems a bit over the top to me, like they try to throw in alot of "English" phrases ("sodding", "bloody", etc.). Maybe I just pick up on it because it's not a part of my ordinary speech.

Debate is one of our favorite things to do, I'm glad that's part of the appeal.

Thanks for listening.

He is supposed to be from Manchester, but "Mancs" as they are known here have a really distinctive accent - which he doesnt.

Yeh he overuses soddin - no one here says soddin. No one really says bloody anymore either - its gone on to "stronger" words! We do say bollox a lot though.

One thing about accents to point out is that quite a few of the Aussies accents were blatantly just British accents - the Cop talking to Boone back in Season 1 for instance - and a couple of others. That bugs me, because we certaintly dont sound like that rabble! :)

so,
soddin(g) no
bloody no
bollox (bollocks?) check
got it.

I never noticed that the cop didn't have an austrailian accent. I'll have to look for that in our next round of lost episodes (i think thats episode 13).
Although I can't differentiate between the types of English accents (I can tell they are different, but I couldn't name them), I can tell the difference between an English and an Australian accent.

Cheers! (Anybody still say that?)

Cheers?

Well I say that a lot, mainly online, but that may be a personal thing.

I was spelling Soding phonetically, Charlie never seems to say the "g".

I thought most Americans thought Australians and Brits sounded the same?

CHEERS!

Kieron

Only the crudest of us can't tell the difference.

Too many of us forget to say our "g"s at the end of our "ing" words.

Also good to know that the inaccuracies of culture aren't enough to prevent you from enjoying the show as a whole.

I also wonder how well they handle the korean, nigerian, iraqi, etc. material. I have an odd feeling that we won't be getting any former republican guard listeners.

7/10/2006 09:44:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

LOL.

I dont think most of the Republican Gaurd leave and suddenly go "Yeh, what was Saddam on about? The west is fucking GREAT" and start acting like they have been buying Nikes all their life!

The actor (Naveen Andrews?) has a really heavy English accent, even I think its extremely British. I know loads of Middle-Eastern and Asian people at Uni and his accent doesnt sound that Iraqi (yes I even know an Iraqi and an Iranian - they get on suprisingly well - anyway...) it sounds more Indian, or Pakistani - but hey it was a big leap for an American show to actually put him in there!

Yeh, us Brits just assume your all plebites that lost your way after you made the foolish decision to become "independent" - but hey Im listening to, responding to, and conversing with Americans about an American TV show - so I'll assume your a couple of the good ones...:)

Kieron, first, thanks for listening and posting comments.

Second, you have a very interesting name, but Justin and I can't tell if you are male or female, since Kieron seems like it could go either way. My money is on male though.

It's awesome to hear from a UKer (did I just make that up?), when is season 3 starting for you guys?

And yes, we are a couple of the good ones. Seriously.

Also, how much do you love/hate Coldplay, Radiohead, Gomez, and Oasis. Just curious.

CHEERS!
Thanks for listening...

p.s. Please join our Frappr map, the link is on the site.

Its my pleasure!

I am male (and my beard grows to a good length - an "in show" joke!!).

Kieron is an Irish name (I am English though), and its exclusively male, most Americans pronounce it Keeraan.

Season 3 wont air til the start of next year! We are on episode 212-13is here - but Im on your schedule...

Gomez and Oasis fantastic, well some of it - I could go on for hours, but I wont! Coldplay, very good when they started out - its all pretty much the same now though. Radiohead, the popular thing to say is AMAZING, I LOVE THEM, and to be honest, I do love most of their stuff. Some of it is just really prentious though and they sacrifice the music to be clever.

I really enjoy the UK/US divide, because there are so many similarities and so many differences. Its especially nice to hear the views of Americans who realise they dont exsist in a bubble!

Do you guys use skype to talk and be able to record?

Ive been thinking about trying to set up a Podcast with some Americans (I was yet to find any at my UNI that werent busy planning to fly home - year over) - I think it would be really interesting and original to talk about stuff with a Brit/American slant.

Cheers,

Kieron

P.S Im already added!

"Keeron"

That's how I say it.

I love that you are on ABC's schedule. Though I can't imagine how you're watching it. ;)

I totally agree with you on those bands. You hit the nail on the head for all of them. Coldplay only ever had like 2 types of songs, fast tempo and slow tempo.

I have all of Radiohead's albums but haven't given the first couple an honest listen. I love Hail to the Thief and OK Computer, and of course Kid A.

I was never too big on Oasis, but after all, I'm a wonderwall. Whatever that is...

We should talk about a trans-Atlantic podcast, it might be interesting.

Justin and I have another podcast, "Mr. Podcast," where we chat about random non-LOST things. Maybe there's some room for expansion there.

As far as recording, we use Skype headsets (Just because I got one for free and it's not bad so Justin got one) through the mic-in port on our computers and use Audacity to record our "respective" audio while we talk to each other on the phone. The two audio tracks are then mixed together, seamlessly thank you, into the glorious podcast we all know and love.

Well now the veil has been lifted for all...

...anybody need a hot air balloon?

Just to let you know, I was listening to your "?" podcast and you were talking about accents.

The actor that plays Echo has an extremely "London" accent and got a masters from the Uni just across the road from mine (Kings College).

Also, in the ? episode - all 9 TVs are supposed to be going to the one Hatch surely?

They said to record every moment, how could they do that with just one or two camera angles?

I am certain we are supposed to assume that all 9 TVs watch the one hatch.

I am posting here to make sure you guys get to see it!

Kieron

Wow, that makes a lot of sense. I guess we didn't think of that.

It makes sense that all 9 TVs were getting fed from cameras in the Swan hatch.

Oft times the pursuit excellence shawdows the simple facts.
(feel free to quote me)

Anyway, this would make me think that the Swan activities were the most important of all on the island. In turn, that would make the Pearl activities (observing the Swan hatch) very important. Though we get evidence that no one cared what the Pearl hatch guys were doing...

7/11/2006 11:49:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes indeed.

Maybe Dharma had their own feed - so they knew what was going on - surely that would make more PRACTICAL sense then setting up cameras and then getting peeople to note down what they see, just look yourself!

That leads to the idea that the PEARL was an experiment - see how much they pick up or something (or an experiment with what they see when their high - I dont care what the producers say, that was weed on the table!) - but that doesnt make much sense to me. The problem I have with the PEARL being an experiment is that they are there for a short amount of time, and then they leave - and others come - it doesnt seem optimal for an experiment - but I suppose it really depends on what the experiment is for.

cheers,

Kieron
